The first World Humanitarian Summit was a “turning point” in the way the world works to alleviate the suffering of millions, the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon said as the summit came to an end. Members of the Anglican Communion were amongst those present for the summit in Instanbul, Turkey.

A partnership between the Anglican Church of Burundi and Unicef is helping to tackle poverty and strengthen peace by financing small-scale cross-community agricultural projects. It comes at a time that the UN warns that the country has been plunged into “civil unrest, growing insecurity, indiscriminate violence and sharp economic deterioration.”

The Archbishop of Canterbury has given his strong support to the work of community-based responses to the global Aids epidemic ahead of next month’s UN High Level Meeting on Ending Aids in New York; calling for a “great further step” towards eradicating the disease as a global health threat by 2030.

The Anglican Church of Nigeria has launched a competition for composers to create a new anthem for the province on the theme of its motto from John 8:32 – “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” The new three-stanza anthem must be “properly worded and theologically sound.”
