We the Leaders of the Indian Churches, at a meeting at Nagpur on the 11th of July 2000 jointly convened by the National Council of Churches in India and the Catholic Bishops Conference of India at the NCCI Campus, have taken a serious and a close look at the continued atrocities against the Churches, Dalits and other minorities.

On August 10th 1997 the Bishop of Kuching, the Rt Revd Made Katib, laid the foundation stone for St Basil's Church. Progress on the one acre site next to the Garland School in Batu Kawa has been slow, but it is hoped that the new building will be ready for use before Christmas 2001.

A National Public Hearing on Dalit Human Rights was held in India in April under the auspices of the National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights. The dalits, or "untouchables", are the lowest caste in traditional Indian society, and were deprived of even the most basic human rights for centuries.

A new Centre for Human Potential Development for the Church of North India (CNI) was inaugurated on 28 March 2000. All the dioceses of the church were represented at the event, led by the Moderator of the CNI, the Most Revd Vinod Peter.

The Diocese of Kuranagala celebrates its Golden Jubilee in 2000. The diocese, which is in central Sri Lanka, is entirely surrounded by the Diocese of Colombo, and about half its size. Kuranagala was originally formed as a missionary diocese of the Province of India, Pakistan, Burma and Ceylon.
