Churches across Britain are being asked to pray for the media this Sunday on what has become an annual call for a day of prayer for journalists and news organisations by the ecumenical charity, the Church and Media Network.

Mission to Seafarers fundraising challenge to yacht enthusiasts

The Mission to Seafarers has been chosen as the nominated charity of this year’s Posidonia Cup sailing regatta and have been given the use of a yacht to compete in next month’s race off the coast of Athens. Now, the Anglican mission agency is looking for a crew to help them compete.

British MP challenges Church Commissioners on Climate Change

A British parliamentarian has challenged the Church Commissioners’ stance on climate change and urged them to “read the Bible”. David Davies, the Conservative MP for Monmouth, told MPs that the parable of the oil lamps and 10 virgins in Matthew 25 supported the “cheap and ready supply of this much-maligned fossil fuel”.

Companion link sees US bishop take assisting role in Liverpool

A companion link between the US-based Episcopal Church’s Diocese of Virginia and the Church of England’s Diocese of Liverpool took a step further this week when the Suffragan Bishop of Virginia was commissioned to serve also as the Assisting Bishop of Liverpool.

Isle of Man bishop votes against same-sex marriage law

The legislature on the Isle of Man, a self-governing British Crown dependency located in the Irish Sea between the north-west coast of England and Northern Ireland, has approved a Bill to enable same-sex couples to marry on the island. The Bishop of Sodor and Man, a member of the island’s parliament, voted against the Bill.

Church praise for Leicester City Premier League success

The Bishop and Dean of Leicester have added their voices to a growing international chorus of praise for Leicester City Football Club after their unlikely success in winning this season’s English Premier League title. Victory was confirmed when nearest challengers Tottenham Hotspur failed to beat Chelsea last night.

Gongs and plaudits for Church of England's ethical investment stance

The Church Commissioners for England have been ranked joint tenth out of 500 of the world’s largest investment funds and given an AAA rating over their performance in tackling climate change. The list was produced by the Asset Owners Disclosure Project (AODP) for its 2016 Report on the world top 500 investors.
