Churches host video hustings ahead of Welsh elections

Over recent years, churches in the UK have increasingly hosted husting events ahead of local and general elections; but the churches of Wales have now gone one step further, and produced a set of videos in which party representatives are interviewed by church representatives.

The Archbishop of Canterbury said he “praises God" for the Mothers’ Union during a service at Lambeth Palace this week to recommission Lynne Tembey as worldwide president of the global Anglican women’s organisation.

Archbishops of York medieval records digitised

More than 10,000 individual handwritten parchment folios belonging to the Archbishops of York between 1225 and 1650 have been digitally scanned and are now being made available online. The York Registers, produced by the University of York, is said to be “one of the most important collections of historical materials to survive in England today.”

Six 'gifts to the church' shortlisted for Michael Ramsey Prize

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has announced the shortlist for this year’s Michael Ramsey Prize for theological writing. Launched in 2005, Launched in 2005, the prize is awarded every three years in celebration of “the most promising contemporary theological writing from the global Church.”

Archbishops of Canterbury and York pray for evangelisation of England

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have called for a “great wave of prayer” for the evangelisation of England. In an “unprecedented step”, Justin Welby and John Sentamu have written to every parish priest in the Church of England, inviting churches across the country to take part in the focused prayer initiative in the week leading up to Pentecost Sunday.

C of E activist receives CBE

A Church of England activist who has served on the General Synod and the Archbishops’ Council and who has been a leading figure in the campaign for the ordination of women to the priesthood and episcopacy, Christina Rees, has been invested as a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by the Prince of Wales.

Praying for the Anglican Consultative Council

The Anglican Consultative Council will meet in Lusaka for its 16th triennial meeting in April, and the secretary general of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon, is asking “all our members in every Province, as well as our ecumenical partners, to join us in this prayer as we prepare for the meeting of this Instrument of our Communion.”

Successful and emerging discipleship work with and by children and young people within the Anglican Communion will be recognised with two new awards. The new Youth and Children Ministry Award will be presented for the first time at this year’s Anglican Consultative Council meeting in Lusaka, Zambia, in April.
