An emergency grant of $25,000 from the Presiding Bishop's Fund For World Relief was sent to the Diocese of North Carolina where Hurricane Fran brought flooding and destruction on 9 September.
On 12 September, the fund received an official request for help from the Diocese of the Dominican Republic and will be sending $25,000 to help repair damage there from Hurricane Hortense. In addition, "We are in communication with the Diocese of Puerto Rico, also suffering from Hurricane Hortense," said Nancy Marvel, fund director. The fund will be responding as soon as Bishop David Alvarez of Puerto Rico has completed his assessment of the damage, she said.
