New Delhi: A 44-year-old tutor has been accused of murdering a student of St Stephen's Anglican College at her home in Adarsh Nagar, north-west Delhi, on Monday night, just eight days before she was due to be married.
The suspect reportedly locked himself in the bathroom after the murder of Priyanka (20), and was arrested when the girl's family called the police.
"The suspect had been employed as a tutor by the family for over nine years. He taught Priyanka till she was in Standard XII. Now he was teaching her younger brother, Vibhor, a Class IX student," north-west district police chief Satyendra Garg said.
He said that the suspect had apparently killed the girl because she had refused to elope with him. He had suggested elopement on learning that she had become engaged earlier this month.
