Evensong, a Reception and a Forum with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend and Right Honorable George L Carey and the US Secretary of State, the Honorable Madeleine K Albright on the Fate of Women and Children Globally.
The Forum was previously scheduled to take place the evening of 15 September 2000 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York City just after the Evensong. Due to changes in the Secretary of State's schedule the Forum and Reception have been moved to September 14, 2000 at 12:00 noon at St Peter's Lutheran Church, 619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street (in the Citigroup complex of buildings). The Evensong will still be held at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue at 111th Street, New York City on the 15th at 6:00 p.m. with another Reception to follow. Evensong, at which the Archbishop will preach, will be open to the public.
Tickets are required for the Forum and Reception on the 14th, and for the Reception after the Evensong on the 15th. We have also arranged for a very exciting Sculpture exhibit to be part of this Gala Event at both locations. Patrons, Sponsors and paid Ticket Subscribers are entitled to tickets to both Receptions, as well as the Forum.
The purpose of this discussion is to raise awareness of innocent suffering caused by endemic and growing widespread poverty, human rights violations targeting women and children, and armed conflicts where terrorism of civilians is a deliberate tactic. It is also to explore how Church and State might cooperate to help alleviate and/or prevent such tragedies. We believe this will be both newsworthy and stimulating of more effective cooperation between Church and State in an increasingly complex world, a world where traditional political forces for cohesion and common standards of conduct are disappearing.
This Forum, with its now "twin Receptions" and worship service, is the centerpiece of the annual fundraising support for the Office of the Anglican Observer at the United Nations. We are especially honored this year to have the Archbishop of Canterbury lead our Gala Event. The form for the tickets is attached. Please note that when you return the form you will receive tickets for entrance to the Forum and both Receptions as you indicate. I encourage you to return the form to my office as soon as possible as several people have already called to request tickets. We will honor all paid ticket requests on a first come first served basis.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to call the Anglican UN Office at (212) 716-6263 and ask for Marnie Dawson Carr, Event Chair, or Yasmeen Granville.
