Episcopal Diocese of Nevada elects new bishop

The Revd Katharine Jefferts Schori

At 8:30 p.m. Pacific Time, Friday, October 13, 2000 the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada elected The Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori as Bishop on the fourth ballot. At the mention of the results, the assembled delegates and guests broke into sustained cheers.

When called to inform her of her election, The Rev. Schori said she was surprised and happily accepted. She wished us all well as we continue our annual Diocesan Convention in Reno.

The Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori is the first female ever elected Bishop of Nevada.
