60 Christian and Muslim leaders and scholars met together at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva 1-5 November 2010. The consultation was organised jointly by the World Council of Churches, the World Islamic Call Society and those responsible for the A Common Word initiative.

The consultation built on meetings that had been coordinated by the World Council of Churches over the past few years, particularly since the publication of A Common Word in 2007. The meeting considered in particular the problems faced by religious minorities, both Christian and Muslim, as well as highlighting the importance of moving from a mindset of conflict to one that focused on compassionate justice. The importance of education was highlighted ,as a means of members of both faiths coming to greater understanding about the ‘other’.

The consultation produced a common statement condemning the attack on the Church of Our Lady of Najat in Baghdad on 31 October. It also commended We commend the implementation of the World Interfaith Harmony Week as adopted by the UN General Assembly on 20 October 2010.
