The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is to join the Most Revd Dr Eliud Wabukala, the Archbishop of Kenya in the Diocese of Butere, Kenya for a 3-day visit to celebrate the 100 years since the Gospel arrived in Butere.

During his visit the Archbishop of York will join in part of the week-long programme of the Centenary Celebrations.  Dr Sentamu is to give a lecture on Evangelism and Social Action to clergy and lay ministers for the Diocese of Butere.  He will then speak at the Hope and Transformation Conference on the issues of health, education and advocacy.  On Sunday 9th February, Archbishop Sentamu will preach at the Service of Celebration and then will launch the 5-year strategic plan for the Diocese.  The service is expected to attract well over 1000 attendees.

The Bishop of Butere, The Rt Revd Dr Tim Wambunya, who was ordained by Archbishop Sentamu when he was Bishop of Stepney, said: “We are delighted that Dr Sentamu will celebrate our Gospel centenary with us. His coming to Butere will be an inspiration to many of us who believe that social transformation is part of the Gospel message. We have much to learn from one whose ministry not only speaks of the Gospel but acts it as well."

Speaking ahead of his visit, the Archbishop of York said: “Asante sana to the people of Kenya and the Diocese of Butere.  I am looking forward to being with my brothers and sisters in this Diocese and to celebrate 100 years of the Gospel together.  My message will be centered on continuing to be the Good News of the Gospel, proclaiming to all the glory of God and make Him known, making Christ visible together now and for the next 100 years.  Hallelujah”

Monday 3rd February: Prayer for Revival and Reformation in all Churches

Wednesday 5th February: Cycling Competition

Thursday 6th February: Prayer Caravan across the Diocese

Friday 7th February: Lecture on Evangelism & Social Action

Saturday 8th February: Hope &Transformation Conference and Kick off Centenary Football League

Sunday 9th February: Service of Celebration and Launch of Strategic Ministry Plan
