[AllAfrica] The Venerable Michael Adebayo Oluwarounmbi is the outgoing supervising priest of the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Anglican Communion. Recently, he was elected the Bishop of Yewa Diocese in Ogun State, under the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos.

You were Farounbi, but now Oluwarounbi; what informed the change name? What is the significance of names to Christians?

I changed the name to acknowledge the fact that God has been our strong tower. The former name was associated with Ifa oracle. That was our grandfather's name, which we inherited. But God has led us from an ancestral background of the Ifa oracle to Christianity. I am not just a nominal Christian, but a leader and servant of God. However, the former name would have been a testimony to show how we grew from that very beginning to this level; but I felt that a name is very important. People should be able to see that we are doers of what we preach. That was why I had to change my name from Farounbi to Oluwarounbi.

On the importance of name, you would remember a character in the scripture, whose name was Jabez, which signifies sorrow. He had to ask for God's intervention to change that name; and his story changed.

God has really been faithful since I changed my surname. Occupying the exalted position of a bishop in the church of God tells you that there is power in a name.
