[Daily Mirror] Mirror columnist Ros Wynne-Jones meets Reverend Keith Hebden who for 40 days and nights will drink only water and a single daily glass of fruit juice.
Inside the vicarage at St Mark’s Church in Mansfield, Notts, Reverend Keith Hebden is explaining why he is about to undertake a 40-day fast.
“We have two foodbanks in the local area, and a third is about to open,” the 38-year-old parish priest says.
“Heating or eating is a real problem in Mansfield. Not just for elderly people, but for young families too.”
A week today, on Ash Wednesday, he will begin his fast, drinking only water and a single daily glass of fruit juice, in solidarity with all those going hungry in 21st century Britain.
It will last 40 days and nights, the traditional Lent period for Christians.
