[Jamaica Gleaner] Anglican Bishop The Right Reverend Dr Howard Gregory is urging the Government to show the nation that it is making part of the sacrifice it is expecting of Jamaicans in the current harsh economic climate.

Gregory was delivering the sermon at the 144th Synod of the Church in Jamaica and The Cayman Islands at St Ann's Bay Parish Church on Tuesday, under the theme 'Affirm the Past, Engage the Present, and Envision the Future'.

Gregory likened Jamaica's current situation to that faced by the prophet Nehemiah during the Persian rule over Judea and urged leaders to follow his example upon his return to Jerusalem.

"Nehemiah, having challenged the people to make sacrifices for the common good by redeeming their debt, recognised that he, too, had to send a positive signal as to what he was prepared to do on his part," the reverend said.
