CMS go offline for the planet on Switch-off Sunday

Based on a contribution by CMS

On Sunday 7 June, members of the Church Mission Society are switching off their gadgets to write, pray and act for climate justice.

The CMS community invites people to join them for this day of action on creation care – the Anglican Communion fifth Mark of Mission - as they disconnect their electronic devices and contemplate lifestyle changes that can be made for the environment.

One suggestion is to challenge local churches to run a switch-off service and use the time to reflect, pray and do advocacy work.

CMS is partnering with Hope for the Future - an ecumenical, nationwide campaign to equip individuals, churches and groups to lobby their Members of Parliament on climate change.

CMS is providing tools for its UK members to challenge politicians locally and nationally to take positive action to address climate-related issues such as the impact on the poorest in society from increased unpredictable weather patterns affecting food production, the loss of animal and plant habitats, the rising cost of resources, an increase in climate change refugees and increased conflict due to reduced land and resources.

CMS asks for prayer on 7 June for CMS people in mission who are working in creation care both in the UK and worldwide.
