A media briefing has been held for Zambian journalists to update them on plans for the international Anglican Consultative Council meeting, ACC-16, which gets underway in the Zambian capital of Lusaka on Friday.

A delegation up of bishops, an official welcome from a government minister, a group of journalists, and an 80-strong choir of Mothers’ Union members greeted the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby when he arrived in Lusaka on Tuesday for a meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council’s standing committee ahead of the start, on Friday, of ACC-16.

When members of the ACC meet in Lusaka next month they will discuss – in the context of intentional discipleship – issues ranging from gender justice, refugees and migration, the environment and reconciliation; and they will do so against a backdrop of prayer, Bible study and worship. Members of the Anglican Communion are being invited to join with them as they explore the Book of Ruth in a series of Bible studies.

Anglican Bishops, priests and laity from across the world will gather in Lusaka next month for the 16th meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC-16). Members will discuss a range of issues around the theme “Intentional discipleship in a world of difference” – how Christians can be faithful to the Gospel in all aspects of their lives in the different cultures and situations that Anglicans find themselves in.

The Anglican Consultative Council will meet in Lusaka for its 16th triennial meeting in April, and the secretary general of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon, is asking “all our members in every Province, as well as our ecumenical partners, to join us in this prayer as we prepare for the meeting of this Instrument of our Communion.”

A young Anglican from Central Africa has said that the Anglican Consultative Council-16 (ACC-16) which will be held in Lusaka, Zambia in April next year, “is a unique opportunity for young people to fully express themselves and shine.”
