Resurrection: The Economist reports on church growth in London

To see the future of Christianity in Britain, go on a Sunday morning to an old Welsh Congregational chapel off the Pentonville Road in Islington. The building has been bought by a Pentecostal Ethiopian church; the congregation raises its hands in a show of unEnglish ecstasy to praise God in Amharic.

Special services mark royal anniversaries

A service of Compline was held at Waltham Abbey Church to commemorate the 950th anniversary of the coronation of King Harold Godwinson. Harold didn’t remain King long – he lost his life a few months after his coronation at the Battle of Hastings during the Norman invasion of England. He is believed to be buried in the churchyard at Waltham Abbey.

Scottish Episcopal Church concerned about cross-border ecumenical agreement

The Church of England and the (Presbyterian) Church of Scotland have reached “an historic agreement that recognises their longstanding ecumenical partnership and lays the groundwork for future joint projects,” the two churches have announced, but the (Anglican) Scottish Episcopal Church has called for a rethink, citing concerns about shared worship and the exchange of ministers.

New home for Lambeth Palace's priceless historic library planned

Proposals to construct a new library at Lambeth Palace are being drawn up. The Church Commissioners for England have appointed husband and wife architects Claire and Sandy Wright to draw up plans for a new library to house one of the world’s most important collections of historic religious documents and artwork, second only to the Vatican in size and importance.
