The legislature on the Isle of Man, a self-governing British Crown dependency located in the Irish Sea between the north-west coast of England and Northern Ireland, has approved a Bill to enable same-sex couples to marry on the island. The Bishop of Sodor and Man, a member of the island’s parliament, voted against the Bill.

A draft resolution to change Canada’s Marriage Canon to accommodate the marriage of same-sex partners is not likely to pass in the Order of Bishops by the required 2/3rds majority, the House of Bishops have said in a statement. Officials from the Anglican Church of Canada's General Synod have responded to the announcement.

Anglican bishops from across southern Africa have resolved that gay and lesbian partners who enter same-sex civil unions under South African law should be welcomed into congregations as full members of the church. A document outlining guidelines on members living in same-sex unions will be sent to the church’s ruling body, which meets this year.

In 2014, the General Synod of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia passed a resolution that created a pathway towards the blessing of same-gender relationships while upholding the traditional doctrine of marriage. The Bishops of the Anglican Church of Canada say that they recognise the “deep pain” that will be caused by next year’s General Synod vote on allowing same-sex marriage in Church; and question whether the Synod’s parliamentary-style procedures are “the most helpful way to discern the mind of the Church, or of the Spirit, in this matter.”

A capacity-crowd at the Sydney Synod has voted for a re-affirmation of marriage as between a man and a woman and called for all Australian Christians to respectfully engage in the public debate on redefining marriage.
