Anglicans call for release of Asia Bibi

The Anglican Consultative Council has called for the case of Asia Bibi, the Pakistani Roman Catholic woman who was convicted of blasphemy, to be re-investigated and for her to be “honourably acquitted.” Asia Bibi has been on death row since November 2010 after a row which stemmed from her drinking water from a cup used by her Islamic co-workers.

Multi-faith vigil for Lahore Easter bomb victims

Around 200 Christians, Muslims and Hindus gathered yesterday (Sunday) at the site of last weekend’s horrific Easter Day bomb attack for a united act of solidarity and sympathy for the victims of the attack; as the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby wrote that church leaders need to go “beyond condemnation” of such terror attacks.

Episcopal Church's "season of prayer" for Anglicans facing violence and civil strife.

The Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Michael Curry, has called on his members to hold a season of prayer for regions of the Anglican Communion which are experiencing violence and civil strife. “In this season of Resurrection, I call on everyone to pray for our brothers and sisters in areas where there is much burden and little hope,” Bishop Curry said.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan has said that the heart of every Pakistani was broken and that the whole nation was in the state of grief and sorrow during a televised address to the nation following the horrific Easter Day bomb attack in Lahore that left at least 72 people dead and more than 300 injured.

Pakistan is at breaking point, the Moderator of the Church of Pakistan has said in response to the Easter Day massacre at the Gulshan-e Iqbal Park in Lahore. At least 72 people were killed and more than 300 injured after a bomb exploded in the park in an attack targeting Christian families celebrating Easter. Many of the dead are women and children

Church of Pakistan hosts Muslims and Christians

Muslims are a minority in Norway and a majority in Pakistan. From 12-15 March, these roles changed at a conference hosted by The Church of Pakistan in Lahore, Pakistan. The conference, themed “Pilgrimage of Life towards Reconciliation,” brought together representatives from all dioceses in Pakistan, as well as several international partners.

Terror attacks spark school security review

Security forces in Pakistan have conducted a full-scale security exercise at a Peshawar Diocese school following terrorist attacks at other educational institutions in the area. The exercise was part of a general review of security at schools which has seen 230 educational facilities closed because of inadequate security.

Bishop urges prayer after Polio clinic bomb

A bomb at a Polio clinic in south west Pakistan has left people feeling “very frightened,” the Bishop of Karachi, the Rt Revd Sadiq Daniel, said. Speaking to the UK’s Premier Christian Radio, Bishop Daniel said that “People can't react. . . The only reaction is that they're scared. They're scared and they're very frightened.”

Joint festival celebration builds peace in Pakistan

More than 200 people from Pakistan’s different faith communities were brought together by the diocese of Raiwind’s peacebuilding department to mark three significant religious festivals as part of efforts to promote understanding, respect, and to build relationships between people of different faiths.
