The Dean of a Cathedral in Canada has said a homelessness protest camp is ‘spiraling out of control’. The Very Revd Ansley Tucker called for the tents outside Christ Church Cathedral to be dismantled and alternative accommodation found.

World summit is "turning point" for humanitarian affairs

The first World Humanitarian Summit was a “turning point” in the way the world works to alleviate the suffering of millions, the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon said as the summit came to an end. Members of the Anglican Communion were amongst those present for the summit in Instanbul, Turkey.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has given his strong support to the work of community-based responses to the global Aids epidemic ahead of next month’s UN High Level Meeting on Ending Aids in New York; calling for a “great further step” towards eradicating the disease as a global health threat by 2030.

Primate of Brazil mobilises to "reclaim our democracy"

The Primate of Brazil has criticised the suspension of President Dilma Rousseff and warned of a growing social movement to “reclaim” the country’s democracy. The Most Revd Francisco De Assis Da Silva had previously criticised the impeachment process. Today he described the process as “a show of sad cynicism”.

Support continues for Ecuador earthquake victims

Tomorrow (Saturday) marks four weeks since the 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Ecuador causing the death of more than 650 people, injuring more than 4,600 and displacing some 30,000. Recovery from the loss of life and the estimated $2 to $3 billion in damages will take years.

Anglicans pitch in for Fort McMurray fire relief

As evacuees from Fort McMurray contemplate waiting weeks before they can return to their fire-ravaged city, Anglicans are continuing to reach out in support. On Friday, the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund announced an initial grant of $15,000 to the diocese of Athabasca, in which Fort McMurray falls, to help with its immediate needs.
