The UK's leading overseas aid and environmental agencies have formed a new alliance in a new campaign to support overseas aid. They launched a `Manifesto for Aid' in July which has attracted the support from a powerful alliance of business, the medical establishment, trade unions and academic.

An Anglican/Methodist Group co-chaired by the Bishop of Grimsby, the Rt Revd David Tustin, and the Secretary of the Methodist Conference, the Revd Brian Beck, have recommended that a new unity scheme for the two Churches should be attempted.

Europe Joint Anglican/Lutheran Hymn Book Planned

Work is underway to produce a small collection of hymns from the Churches involved in the Porvoo Agreement to help in celebrating the Anglican and Lutheran traditions of northern Europe.

England: Manchester Cathedral Damaged by Bomb

Massive damage was done to Manchester Cathedral on 15 June when a bomb went off in the city centre. The bomb was planted in a lorry outside the Arndale Centre shopping centre by the Irish Republican Army (IRA). More than 200 people were injured.

England: Former Archbishop admits he Ordained homosexuals

The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Runcie, admitted in a radio interview that he has knowingly ordained practising homosexuals. When asked if he had knowingly ordained a practising homosexual Lord Runcie said "Yes", but when on to clarify:"I have not knowingly ordained anyone who told me they were a practising homosexual and were living in partnership with somebody as if it was a marriage."

Marriage of divorced people in the Church of Ireland churches is to be regularised. A new bill providing for a service of preparation to be held before the wedding, was approved by an overwhelming majority of the General Synod of the Church in Dublin in May.

Like many others my late teens and early twenties were crucial in the formation of my Christian faith. It was when I was seventeen that my brother, Bob, first invited me along to our local Church which he had started going to some years before.
